2003 BRITISH SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
BRITISH SCHOLARSHIPS
  On Friday 6 June 2003, Ms Cherie Blair, QC, launched a new scholarship scheme for Finnish students to study at postgraduate level in the UK. The guests of honour were Jorma Ollila, CEO Nokia Group and Minister of Culture Tanja Karpela. The British Scholarships were conceived and developed by British Council Finland and HMA Matthew Kirk as a replacement for the Chevening scheme.

Funding is provided by Finnish industry and the scheme is administered by the British Council. Jorma Ollila, CEO Nokia Group is patron of the scheme. Jorma Ollila was himself a recipient of a British Council scholarship in 1977, studying for an MSc in Economics at the London School of Economics. The four companies who have provided funding for the scheme are Metso, Sampo, UPM-Kymmene and Fazer.

2003 Award Winners

British Metso Scholarship to Ms Anna Korppoo, 28 to study for a PhD in Climate and Energy Policy at Imperial College London.

British Sampo Scholarship to Mr Erkki Aalto, 26 to study for an LLM course in European and International Law at Aberdeen University.

British UPM-Kymmene Scholarship to Mr Mikko Lepistö, 24 to study for an MSc in Environmental Technology at Surrey University.

British Fazer Scholarship to Ms Reetta Maaskola, 25 to study for an LLM at Nottingham University.
