2004 BRITISH SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
BRITISH SCHOLARSHIPS
When the president of the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer compliments UK Higher Education we should get the message.

Jorma Ollila, President of Nokia and Patron of the British Scholarships scheme described UK postgraduate education as second to none in the world when he was speaking at the British Scholarships award ceremony in Finland recently. He should know. Jorma Ollila was a British Council scholar himself, and studying at the London School of Economics doesn't seem to have done him any harm!

Jorma Ollila was one of a number of distinguished guests at the award ceremony in Helsinki City Hall. Paavo Lipponen, Speaker of the Finnish Parliament and previously Finnish Prime Minister was presenting the awards alongside the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Robert Finch who presented one of the City of London's own Mansion House Scholarships.

Now in its second year, the British Scholarship scheme has more than doubled in size to a total value of €70,000, thanks the generosity of our sponsors. In 2004 10 lucky Finnish students will benefit from the scheme. Who knows, maybe one of them will one day take over from Jorma Ollila?
